In July 2012 the Cockapoo Owners Club started fundraising for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity that provides and trains dogs to assist deaf adults or children in their day to day life.
The dogs are trained to alert their owners to important sounds – for instance the alarm clock, smoke alarm, telephone etc – but also has the add on bonus of providing confidence, independence and companionship to their deaf owner.
Our target was to raise £5000 which would enable us to name a puppy for training and follow its progress through its early important socialisation, on to training as a Hearing Dog and eventually being matched to a deaf recipient.
We organised various online competitions, Bingo evening, photo competitions and our first ever Club Calendar etc and saw the donations roll in. Thanks to the generosity of our members in just over 6 months we had reached our target and we waited for news of a Cockapoo litter.
We were delighted to find out that Ginny, a beautiful working/show x Cocker Spaniel was pregnant. In May we heard on our facebook page that Ginny was about to give birth and we all waited excitedly for the news as it unfolded, with regular updates from Fiona Daniels who is Ginnys guardian. Great news she safely delivered 8 gorgeous cockapoo puppies! Well done Ginny.
